adapt
Our built heritage has developed and evolved over time, to meet contemporary needs that change with each generation. ELM has a passion for developing creative solutions to the complex demands placed on historic buildings today, such as improvements to sustainability, inclusivity and accessibility. Such solutions require creative thinking, rooted in a thorough understanding of historic context, architectural history, legislative controls and user's needs.
ELM enjoy adding details of joy and interest to conservation repair projects, taking opportunities to enrich our built heritage and add interest for future generations.
BUILT narrative
ELM seeks to balance respect and honour for our built heritage, with creative and bold interventions that address the needs of contemporary users. Historic buildings must respond to the needs of the 21st Century, in order to remain relevant and functional.
Interventions and repairs should be seen as new layers within the complex narrative of our built heritage. Working together, the client and architect act as custodians to listed buildings, respecting the past whilst considering the needs of future generations.
